Did you know that babies who sign babble? It’s called Manual Babbling and they do it for the same reason vocal babies babble- to practice the elements of their speech. Your baby is experimenting with their tongue, lips and mouth movement so they’ll be able to make all the sounds necessary for their speech. What comes after cooing? Babbling! By 4-6 months of age, baby will begin to use consonant sounds in babbling (e.g. “da, da, da”). Encourage baby to babble by babbling to them!
