How can you view the durability? When I do F3+H it doesn't work. I have version 1.7.2, and I'm using mods, but not any durability mods. I'm using a Lenovo laptop and an Acer laptop running Windows 8.
How to check durability Is there any way to see the amount of durability a tool has? I know the bar on the bottom but I think I’ve seen mods that tell you an exact number. Is there any vanilla way to do that? If not, what mods do that?

Pressing F3+H didn't do anything when inside the inventory menu, for me. So, I closed the inventory, pressed F3+H at the same time and then opened the inventory menu. It then showed the durability of each used item. It's more of a mode change, not a single-use function like I thought it was. Hope that helps someone.

The keyboard shortcut for your volume control is taking precedence over Minecraft. In other words, Minecraft doesn't even know you're pressing that key combination, because the events are being intercepted.
